Town ^of Brookfield

The town has been conduction a mosquito abatement program since 1998.  The aim of this program is to reduce nuisance levels of mosquitoes as well as reducing the possibility of mosquito-borne diseases spreading to our area (including West Nile Virus, LaCrosse Encephalitis and other diseases).  Check the Centers for Disease Control for emerging infectious diseases and pesticide uses. 

 

The Town created a Mosquito Abatement Committee to study the feasibility of this program as well as administering the day to day operations of the program.  Between the committee, Park & Recreation Department, and Public Works Department, we continue to improve the program and maintain sensitivity to the residents of the town.

The town sprays according to four sections:

Section I	south of Davidson Road
Section II	north of Davidson; south of Bluemound Road
Section III	north of Bluemound Road; south of North Avenue
Section IV	north of North Avenue

Typically, Sections II and IV are combined.

Spraying dates and times are developed with citizen comment and weather patterns.  Spraying cannot commence when temperatures are below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, winds are above 15 miles per hour, or rain is expected.

Spraying will typically start at 1:00 am and run until 6:00 am.  Please check the Mosquito Hotline at 262-796-0945 for up to the minute schedules.  Sprayings can be aborted due to weather changes.  Budgetary constraints also limit the number of sprayings that can be done in a calendar year.
